Internal happiness
is a true treasure
We usually think
that happiness is something outside of us, that comes from money, fame, power,
and relationships but true happiness is inside us. God is inside us and nothing
in this world can compare to that happiness.
“Lasting happiness cannot be attained by seeking temporary happiness.”
A Short Story of a farmer in search of treasure
I am sharing the story of a farmer today. He used to try to earn a living from farming, but he could not
earn so much that a good family could take expensive things. He wore so
worn-out clothes that some neighbors used to make fun of him. Still, he
was satisfied with what he had. He used to spend his free time in
devotion, meditation, and prayer to the Lord. He was advised by some
friends to do something for himself instead of wasting time in the Lord's
Prayer. He was happy with his life, but they kept asking him repeatedly
to do something for himself, so the seeds of doubt started growing in his
mind. He starts thinking that if he becomes rich, then he might be
happier. One night the farmer saw a dream. He saw a divine man, who
told him to go to the city, where he would find a great treasure. Since
that farmer had the influence of his friends to search for money, he accepted
the dream as true. He walked towards the city. He has never been to
the city before. He was unaware of the rules there. One of the guards
caught him while he roamed around and took him. There he asked,
"What are you looking for here and there? The farmer said, 'I am in
search of a treasure. I had
a dream and I was told that I will get that great treasure here. 'The guard said,' You are mad. It is just a dream. For example, once I had a dream that I should go to a
village hut outside the city. A canal passes by near the hut. There is also a small
farm near but the house belonged to a poor person. Satisfied. In the dream, I
was told that I would get a big treasure but I never went there, because the
dreams are not true. "Hearing the guard, the farmer was in shock. The
house he was referring to seemed to be exactly like the farmer's own house. He
was sent back to his village. The farmer is overflowing with this possibility
that the treasure that he was looking for, could be in the field in front of
his house. The farmer went to the place about which he was told by the guard.
He started digging and, in truth, he found a large sack that contained a
treasure that he believed to be a rich man. He became a rich person.
This story is an example of our own state. We seek the treasure of love and
happiness all around the world, not knowing that true happiness and true love
awaits us within us. Instead of searching for true treasure outside, we
should sit in meditation and practice and find the true wealth within.
Then in this life. We will be filled with love, eternal peace, and
happiness.
